Instruction on Christian Counseling can be found all over the Bible. In whatever trying situation you may find yourself in, the Bible has the answer. The Bible clearly instructs that as believers, we are to hold each other up, encourage one another, and pray. That in a nutshell is Biblical Counseling in the works.

Christians keeping fellow believers accountable for their actions is the responsiblity of the Church of Jesus Christ. At the Biblical Counseling Ministry of Faith Evangelical Bible Church, we base our instruction and advice solely on the Bible. We take our responsibilities as a Christian Counseling Center extremely serious. We are here to help provide a "safe place" when you are hurting.

Anticipation!

Anticipation - What are you looking forward to this morning? I realized just a little bit ago how important that question is. Let me explain.

Yesterday I sat at my desk looking out the window for most of the day, watching and waiting for the UPS AND the FedEx trucks. Why? Well, because I was anticipating 2 separate deliveries from Apple! Yes, I am finally getting an iPad.

But, wait! No, the iPad was not scheduled to be delivered yesterday. You see, I ordered directly from Apple so I could get their free engraving on the iPad. For that reason, it has not even shipped yet. But I did get the iPad cover and docking station yesterday. I knew that is all that was being delivered yesterday but yet I was so excited about it!

Do you know how difficult it is to get little parts of my Apple order but not the thing I am looking forward to the most? Oh my goodness! Another part of my order is being delivered today and yes, I am already looking out the window and watching for it.

As I realized just how much anticipation there is about an electronic device, I was saddened to think about how LITTLE excitement and anticipation there is about Jesus Christ. Jehovah, the Name above all names, Savior, King of Kings, Lord of lords. We get little tastes of the love of Christ every single day in so many different ways but are we excited about that? Do we look forward to being with Him in throughout every part of our day?

Internet access is not needed with Jesus Christ. He is ALWAYS available. The connection will not be lost unless YOU choose to not to turn to Him. Jesus Christ - there will NEVER be a newer, improved, faster, or better model because He is already the Perfect Son of God! Do you know Him?

Today I choose to so spend my day anticipating my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ - Son of God, Son of Man.

Cancer Brings Joy

Cancer and joy! Can those two things possibly go together? Can joy be experienced in the midst of a diagnosis of cancer, surgery, and treatments?

You have cancer! Three simple words that I can guarantee do not bring a response of, “Oh, good!” For most of us, visions of surgery, hair loss, and the possibility of physical death would quickly go through our mind. On July 17, those were some of the thoughts that I had when told that biopsy results proved positive for cancer. But God . . .

Yes, but God! Two even simpler words that are two of the most powerful words I know.

Cancer can bring fear . . . but God.
Darkness can come with cancer . . . but God.
Decisions on treatment can overwhelm . . . but God.
Side-effects – too many to even think about . . . but God.

But God! In the midst of trials, God brings joy and peace. Knowledge that God is in control and has already gone before me to set things in order brings peace. Evidence of God’s hands in the smallest of details brings incredible joy. A joy from knowing that God’s loving arms will NEVER let go of me.

Jehovah Rapha (God that Heals) has not failed. All too often, Jehovah Rapha is referenced to only in physical healing. God definitely has the power to heal physical needs but more importantly, God heals hearts. That spiritual healing of hearts is what turns the bitterness from trials and sicknesses to sweetness and joy.

So how is there joy in cancer? Only through Jesus, Jehovah Rapha, first healing my heart and turning every part of my life over to Him. Then, the amazement of watching God’s hand in all things follows. Whether or not physical healing comes, God’s light still shines through. Whatever trials this life brings, Jesus is in control of my life and God’s will be done. Such incredible peace comes with knowing without a doubt that it is well with my soul.

Joy in the midst of cancer is possible because of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ showing His love to me every single day even in the smallest of details. To God be the glory, great things He has done, is doing, and will continue to do forever and ever.

Taste of Heaven

Is it possible to get a little taste of heaven while still here on earth? My personal response to that would be an emphatic YES and I'll try to explain how.

Earth is God's creation and we can experience Him each and every day in the beauty that surrounds us. Remember that beautiful rainbow you saw during the last rain storm? That's God! What about that fresh snowfall glistening brightly against the sunshine coming from the bluest sky? That's God! Oh, and there's all the colors of spring blossoms on trees and flowers. Yes, that's God, too. The twinkling stars on a clear night are also part of God's wonderful creation. That sweet smelling newborn baby you held in your arms is also loved by God.

If you are have ever taken a single breath, you are part of God's creation. And that is huge! Why? Because we were created for fellowship with the Almighty Father God. Yes, Elohim, Powerful God and Creator wants a relationship with you. Genesis 1:1 says: In the beginning, God (Elohim) created the heavens and the earth.

Do you want to learn more about the loving creator of the universe? It's possible. God wants you to know the feel of His loving arms embracing and comforting you on the toughest of days. Mega Church or Small Church?

Mega Church or Small Church? Which is better?

Having moved around the country often over the years, we have experienced being a part of:

a fantastic mega-church with over 10,000 members
a great tiny church with maybe 20 families
an awesome church with about 180 people on an average Sunday

At small churches, I've heard people compare themselves to a large church and say that there can never be much closeness and fellowship in a mega church. Yet at large churches, I have heard (and experienced) that small churches can be hurtful because everyone pretty much knows your business.

So back to my original question - which is better, a mega-church, a small church, or somewhere in between? Let me tell you. It's the one (large or small) with CHRIST at the center. Size does not matter but the FOCUS ON CHRIST does!

When you have been a part of a loving, church that is on fire for God (whether large or small), it can be very hurtful to hear it criticized just because of its size. Please stop the self-righteous criticism. It does nothing but cause pain!

The important question should be: Are they being effective for Christ? That is what each one of us should be striving for. Are you using the gifts that God has given you to shine His light to all those around you? Don't focus on others. How are you doing?

The Old Jail Museum in Valparaiso, Indiana is one place to take your kids to visit as you plan fun adventures for the spring and summer.

The Old Jail and Sheriff's residence are named in the National Registry of Historic Places and all the period furniture and exhibits belong to the Historical Society of Porter County. The Old Jail Museum is open to the public on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 1 - 5 PM and its FREE! Donations are accepted and are used to support the museum.
